The Yakshini!
I had just moved into my new apartment in the city and was excited to explore the neighborhood. As I walked down the street, I noticed a small temple tucked away in a corner. It looked abandoned, with overgrown bushes and broken steps leading up to the entrance.
I was intrigued and decided to take a closer look. As I climbed the steps, I heard a faint whispering sound, like someone was chanting in a foreign language. I pushed open the creaky door and stepped inside.
The temple was dark, but I could see a small idol in the center, surrounded by candles and offerings. As I got closer, I noticed that the idol was of a yakshini, a supernatural female being from Indian folklore.
I felt a strange energy in the air, as if the temple was alive with unseen forces. Suddenly, I heard a voice behind me, whispering my name. I turned around, but there was no one there.
"Who's there?" I called out, but there was no response. I started to feel uneasy and decided to leave, but as I turned to go, I felt something grab my arm.
I looked down and saw a hand, pale and cold, clutching my wrist. I tried to pull away, but the grip was too strong. I looked up and saw the idol of the yakshini come to life, her eyes glowing red in the dark.
"You have trespassed on my temple," she said, her voice echoing through the room. "You must pay the price."
I tried to break free, but the yakshini's grip was too strong. She dragged me towards the altar, where she raised a sharp knife, ready to strike.
I closed my eyes and braced for the pain, but then I heard a loud banging on the door. The yakshini hesitated for a moment, then released me and disappeared into the darkness.
I stumbled out of the temple, shaken and bruised. As I looked back, I saw the temple doors swing shut, as if closing off a world of ancient secrets and forgotten magic.
From that day on, I avoided the temple and tried to forget the encounter. But every time I walked past, I could feel the yakshini's presence, watching me, waiting for me to return. And I knew that one day, I would have to face her again, and this time, there might be no one to save me.
