The Haunted House
I had heard the stories about the old abandoned house on the edge of town. People said it was haunted, that strange things happened there. But I never believed in ghosts or spirits, so I decided to investigate.
As a local police officer, I figured it was my duty to check it out, make sure no one was squatting or vandalizing the property. I drove up to the house, parked my car, and walked up to the door.
The house was old, dilapidated, and had clearly been vacant for years. But as soon as I stepped inside, I felt a chill run down my spine. The air was cold, and I could hear whispers and murmurs coming from the shadows.
I called out, identifying myself as a police officer, but there was no response. I moved further into the house, my flashlight scanning the dark corners and rooms.
That's when I saw her. A young girl, no more than 10 years old, standing in the corner of the room. She was wearing a dress from the 1950s, her hair in pigtails, and her face was pale, almost translucent.
"Hey there, little one," I said, trying to put her at ease. "Are you okay? What are you doing here?"
But she didn't respond. She just stood there, staring at me with empty eyes.
I approached her, intending to help her, but as soon as I got close, she vanished. The room grew colder, and I could hear the sound of footsteps and whispers all around me.
I knew I had to get out of there, but as I turned to leave, I saw a photo lying on the ground. It was a picture of a family, taken in the 1950s, and the little girl was in it.
I picked up the photo, studying it closely, and that's when I saw it. A date, etched into the corner of the photo. A date from over 60 years ago.
I couldn't believe it. The little girl had been dead for decades, yet here she was, haunting this old house.
I left the house, feeling a sense of unease and fear. I knew I had encountered something that wasn't of this world. Something that had been dead for years, yet still lingered in this world.
The haunted house still stands on the edge of town, and I warn people to stay away. You never know what you might encounter, or what horrors may await you inside.
